Catherine Strand is the artist and founder of GlasRat Art Glass in Kings Beach where she works from a home-based studio. She uses art glass to create functional and aesthetic objects for the home, the garden, and the body. Catherine has shown her art glass throughout the West from Steamboat, Colorado and St. George, Utah to the Bay Area. Her creations are currently offered in retail shops throughout the Reno/Lake Tahoe region.
Catherine has studied various kilnforming (or fusing) and lampworking techniques. She originally received training and inspiration from Carole and William Hutchison in 2003. Subsequent art glass training has included airbrush on glass, casting, mosaics, powders, weaving and textures. Catherine collaborated with Carole and William Hutchison to design, create and install the donor recognition wall for Community House in Kings Beach in 2014.
